Barry Waxman – Chairman/Founder

Mr. Waxman’s experience spans a successful twenty year career in diversified segments of the high tech industry. His experience and track record scales from early stage private companies to over $1 billion public companies. His industry knowledge is broad, spanning Semiconductors, PC’s/Computers, Networking, Telecom, Mass Storage, Imaging, Wireless, Consumer, Medical/Bio, Automotive(Telematics) and Gaming. He has a solid track record of leadership and coaching, demonstrating significant revenue increases and establishing key strategic customers and partners.

Additionally, Mr Waxman’s experience includes Executive/GM/Officer & Senior Management positions in Sales (OEM and Channels), Marketing, Operations and Engineering responsibilities. He has a strong global knowledge that includes North America, Latin America, Europe and a particularly strong knowledge of Asia with companies such as Pixel Magic, a leading provider of Imaging DSP’s (acquired by Oak Technology), Mylex Corporation, a leading provider of RAID storage subsystems (acquired by IBM), Adaptec Corporation, the world’s leading provider of SCSI storage controllers and Western Digital Corporation.

Professionally, Mr. Waxman has most recently been associated and an early investor in International Wireless Inc. where his extensive knowledge and relationships helped establish early design wins at major Japanese and Korean cellphone and PDA manufacturers. He is also responsible for developing International Wireless’ long-term business and product strategies.

Mr Waxman also served as an Officer and Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at MicroTouch Systems, the leading provider of touchscreens, where he also had responsibility for 180 employees, located in 10 International sites in Europe, Asia, South East Asia, China and Japan. He helped orchestrate the acquisition of MicroTouch by 3M, in January 2001.

Mr. Waxman also serves as a Director of Semiconductors at Trudeau & Trudeau, an Investment Bank, is a Founding Managing Partner of TechASIA, a Business Development Consulting firm and also is a Founding Member of GlobalScot’s Advisory Board.

Mr Waxman earned his Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Paisley College of Technology, King’s College, London.


John Puopolo – Founder, Vice President – Engineering

Mr. Puopolo is a driven, results-oriented software professional with 15 years experience designing and delivering quality software products to the financial, consumer and high-tech marketplaces.

Before co-founding mVision Technology, Mr. Puopolo served as Vice President of Engineering at International Wireless, Inc., where he delivered mobile applications for PDAs and handsets across a variety of operating systems and platforms – in less than 6 months, the core product ran across 3 operating systems, in 2 languages and integrated seamlessly with a variety of off-the-shelf components.

Mr. Puopolo loves to design and build software, and has done so quite effectively for the entirety of his career. Starting out at large enterprise companies including the Boston Company, Fidelity Investments and Lotus/IBM, Mr. Puopolo earned his stripes designing and developing scalable systems using distributed, object-oriented architectures.

Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug a decade ago, Mr. Puopolo has been seasoned at Boston-area start-up companies, producing maximum output with a minimum of resources. He has grown and led software engineering teams of all sizes, has a proven track record of success, and has delivered several commercial, high-quality software products to market including Lotus Components, Enliven Producer, an award-winning PC application and CodePoint, a symbol recognition and decoding system for mobile devices.

In addition to practicing software engineering, Mr. Puopolo also serves on the adjunct faculty of Northeastern University’s School of Continuing Education where he develops and teaches state-of-the-art classes including C# Programming, .NET Development, Java Programming and Wireless Device Programming. Mr. Puopolo is also the author of Writing OLE Controls, A Practical & Comprehensive Approach published by Prentice-Hall.


Thomas Antognini Ph.D – Founder, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Antognini is a veteran of the machine vision industry. He has previously developed technology for encoding and decoding data using visual symbols. He has also invented methods for encoding data in a sophisticated two-dimensional matrix code, which have been awarded two patents. Most recently, he received a Notice of Allowance on a patent regarding encoding data that is used to link to Internet based content. He is considered an expert on reading barcodes and other visual symbols using consumer grade CMOS or CCD imager based systems, such as mobile phones and PDAs. He has independently developed codes and decoding technology for a number of companies including Kodak. In his former role, he was the Chief Scientist for International Wireless where he was responsible for algorithm development for barcode decoding and other symbologies.

Prior to that, Dr. Antognini was employed at Ektron, a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, where his interests turned to computer vision. He designed and developed a system for automatic sorting of complicated mail-pieces, and contributed to projects in neural networks, facial recognition, and print inspection for the United States Postal Service. Earlier in his extensive career, he worked at MITRE Corporation in the areas of formal program verification and theorem proving as well as artificial intelligence.

Dr Antognini also serves as founder and CEO of Cobblestone Software.

Dr. Antognini earned a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology specializing in mathematical logic.
